Greetings everyone!

As you can see from looking at any part of the Student Union Construction area, this project is
really moving forward! I think the most consistent comment I have heard this week is “WOW –
that’s a lot of glass”! Followed by the most common question of the week – “How are you going
to keep it clean”? That may be the million dollar (or some very large sum of money) question!
But doesn’t it look great?

The trademark glass face of the north side of the expansion is nearing completion, as are the
exterior walls on all sides and all levels of the expansion. The exterior of the remodeled space is
receiving coats of stucco which have required drying times between coats. The final color coat
should be going on about the first of April (no foolin’) and then the scaffolding can come down on
that portion of the project.

The roof will be going on the expansion portion of the project in mid-April, with the official “dry-in”
of the project expected to be the later part of the month. Once that is complete, the interior work
in the expansion will move from infrastructure to finishes, with drywall going up and the detail
work will begin. Through all of that glass, you will see lots of activity! In the remodeled building,
they are painting and installing ceilings, working toward the finishes that will be installed (lighting,
carpets, new floors, etc…). While it doesn’t look like we will be able to move back into that part of
the building by the end of this semester as previously hoped, it is looking good for us to move in
over the summer and be up and running by the start of fall semester. We will be sure to keep you
posted on that progress.

When we started this project in January of 2005, 20 months seemed like a really long time. As
we approach the remaining 6 months of construction (give or take a few days) it is hard to recall
the original spaces and operation, all of the challenges we have faced, and the tough decisions
required to get us to this point. We look forward to our re-opening with great anticipation and
excitement, and hope that you will share that with us, just as you have “Watched us Grow”!
