Greetings everyone

Beyond the normal update on our progress, this message is to notify the campus that the water will be shutoff to SBS and NSM on Thursday, March 31 and Friday, April 1, 2005. Please note the selected dates include the Cesar Chavez holiday (the campus is closed), but no, this is not an April Fool's joke. The contractor will restore water service as soon as a 10" water line is relocated to its new location. If you have any concerns about this shutoff, please notify Jay Jefferson, Construction Management, (x3023) immediately.

Now, for the update. Thanks to all of you who put in a good word with Mother Nature or performed your famous "anti-rain" dances or whoever finally turned the big sprinkler in the sky off - this is what they call good construction weather! With any luck, the days of rain delays are behind us, and the contractor will continue making great progress! For those of you who are interested, there are now pictures up on our website, which will be updated periodically, to allow you to keep tabs on the project (go to www.csudh.edu/usu and click on the construction logo; then select construction photos from the top menu). For those of you who are interested in an up close and personal viewing point, the stairwell at the northwest corner of SBS seems to provide the best viewing (go to the third floor and look west). From that vantage point you can see the entire site including inside the existing facility (actually straight out the other side!) and you can watch the progress as the excavation of both the loading dock area and the new building (north of the existing building) progress. Retaining walls and the pad for the relocation of the air handler on the east side of the building will start going up during spring break. In the existing building, now that the walls and everything are out of the way, the new floor plan is being laid out and locations for new walls established. You won't be able to see straight through for long!

And just one more note of safety - please be cautious in and around the construction site, including on the east side on the approach road to SBS and SOE. There is an increased amount of traffic there as trucks move the dirt that is being excavated from the loading dock back around to the site location on the upper level. Please heed the instructions of flagmen in the area and in general be alert while walking in that area.

Thanks again to everyone who is involved in making this project happen and to the campus for their support!

Watch us Grow...
