Greetings everyone |
If the weather will cooperate, we are ready to start building a student union! |
As early as the middle of next week, the contractor for the Student Union Expansion and Renovation, SJ Amoroso, will begin fencing the construction site and staging area on the north mall, occupying a large portion of that space. Shortly thereafter, major activity will begin in and around the current facility which will impact the campus in a number of ways, mostly with changes in traffic patterns. Every effort will be made to minimize the disruptions, but given the location, that will not always be easy. Updates will be sent as details become available. |
Construction traffic will access the site from the inner campus road parallel to Victoria Street, similar to the way the Bookstore contractor has accessed their site. There will be signage and flag persons where necessary, but pedestrians are advised to use extra caution when walking near the construction site. The walkway between the west and east walkways that crosses the mall will be closed for the entire period of construction. The east walkway between SBS and SCC Building 14 (School of Education) will be closed for the first six months of construction to facilitate the excavation and expansion of the loading dock, tunnel and retaining walls. |
| And, there is progress to report - the University Bookstore will conduct Spring 2005 "Rush" from its Student Union location, although in a somewhat temporary arrangement. Beginning Monday, January 10, 2005, text books will be available along with some supplies in the Student Union. Access into the store will only be from the south exterior doors off the walkway between the Student Union and the Library. All other items will continue to be available from the Spirit Shop in SCC Building 1. Additional details will be sent out shortly regarding hours of operation, etc for both spaces. Then, later in the spring, watch for the official opening of the new and improved University Bookstore in its permanent home here in the Student Union. |
| As always, thank you for your support and we hope you will continue to "Watch us grow!". |
